SQL 2005 Reporting Services Server Migration

We are trying to prepare (i.e. document) for replacing our current SQL 2005 (with SP4) Reporting server. To test the correct procedure I have setup a second system and following the instruction in this KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842425/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0) attempting to restore and validate it all worked.

In the steps for 2005 is says to backup the encryption key, however in the restore for the destination server it does not mention restoring the backed up keys. So my questions are:

  1. Why is this not part of the restore step for 2005?  Is it necessary? We do have stored credentials in some reports so I would assume yes.
  2. Restoring the key on the destination folder has no affected or relevance to the current (source) reporting server I presume. That is this operation does not alter or somehow point back to the source server thus potentially taking it offline? We would not want that at this time since we are simply testing the migration and need the production reporting services to remain operational.

Thanks for any reply in advance.
