Enabling RSWindowsBasic authentication on scale-out cluster for 3rd party app

Hi,

We have a SSRS 2008 Enterprise scale-out cluster installed on windows 2008R2.  We host many in-house reports and other reports for 3rd party systems we install and maintain.  Some reports are accessed via the report manager application, some, via the viewer in .net applications.  Both our developers and 3rd party systems use the report viewer .net control to view reports.

We have a new application being setup that has been struggling to work with SSRS and it turns out it needs basic authentication enabled.  It's a .net application.

I'm not inclined to make this change, as we've done just fine for 5+ years without basic auth turned on, it would put us out of a 'default' configuration and would also prevent us from using windows authentication on datasources in the future - particularly against SSAS.

Our other options would be pushing back to have the vendor make a code change, or installing another SSRS instance on a separate server.

Would you make this change?  What other impacts could this have?
