At present we have an Active/Passive SQL Server 2012 Enterprise cluster hosting a number of databases on a single default instance.
Our dev team are currently looking at two in house projects to bolt SQL reporting services onto existing solutions that are back ended with Oracle Databases to meet reporting requirements.
Now SSRS isn’t really my area (and we don’t use it at present), what our devs are asking for is for two additional SQL instances installed on the cluster for which each instance will have SRSS connecting to the two Oracle Databases.
Is this the best approach? - two instances of SRSS gives ring-fenced sites with their own configurations, Oracle DB connections etc?
Can the two new SRSS instances be installed without the SQL DB engine?
Also as our cluster is 2 physical blades licenced for SQL per core I assume we can install multiple instances under the per core licencing terms of SQL 2012 Enterprise?
