Controlling Data Type when Exporting to .csv

Hello everyone,

I have a series of SSRS reports that are made available to users in a web application in HTML format, and in addition they all have the option of exporting the report to .CSV

Several reports provide a "Total Score" out of a "Total Possible" score. These are displayed in the format: TotalScore/TotalPossible -- that is, with a slash between them. For example, if the score was 6 points out of a possible 10 points, "6/10" is displayed.

The problem is, when this is exported to .csv and opened with Excel, it is automatically converted to a date data type. "6/10" is displayed as "10-Jun".

Is there a way to correct this behavior without having to rely on the user to re-format the cells in Excel?

thanks!
