making a column visible only under certain conditions

Hi.  We run 2012 enterprise.  I have 8 row groups that can be toggled by their respective parent groups.  i hide 4 of these on initial display but as u know their "hidden" columns still take up real estate on my report on initial display.  Their content is just blank blank on initial display.

Is there a way to shrink their width to 0 until such time as certain toggles occur?

Similarly, I have a numeric (not a group) data column that doesnt sum (unlike many of the numerics before and after it) and whose data only shows once the lowest toggle occurs.  Is there a way to shrink its width to 0 until such time as toggling at the lowerst level occurs?  This data item is a rate upon which summation doesnt make sense.
