SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 2008 with wildcard SSL certificate

Hello,

We have an SSRS2008 (non-R2, standalone, without IIS) running in a production environment and I want to know if I can replace the current SSL certificate with a wildcard certificate.  We're running Basic Auth.

I have read of several issues reported by people, such as the following MS Connect bug:

http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/514292/reporting-services-2008-cannot-create-http-endpoint-with-a-wildcard-ssl-cert

5 people reported experiencing the same problem, but Microsoft was unable to replicate it.  Is this a vocal minority whereas most people get this working ok?  Or is this a known issue and I shouldn't even try shelling out for the wildcard because it's not likely to work?  Note - we are in the process of an upgrade to SQL Server 2012.  We're not planning to deploy SQL 2008 R2.  Knowing that this is fixed in SQL 2012 will be interesting, but for now I need to get this working on SQL Server 2008.

Thanks in advance,

Michael
