Parsing RTF Strings into a Report

$

Hello all,
I'm a DBA creating a functional report for our team, just so you know that I'm not a true report dev.

I have a RTF string that I need to display in a report:

From this:
{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}{\f1\fnil Microsoft Sans Serif;}}  \viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17 http://sharepoint.what.net/sites/it/Web/WebDev/Change%20Notices1/June%202009%20month%20releases/yes.xml\f1\par  \par  \f0 Pleash push the files located at this location to production.\par  }

To this:
http://sharepoint.what.net/sites/it/Web/WebDev/Change%20Notices1/June%202009%20month%20releases/yes.xml

Pleash push the files located at this location to production.

How can I accomplish this? Is this doable at the SSRS level?

Thanks in advance for the help!

parameter setting

Hello,

I have a SSRS 2012 report with a parameter @Rng.  I'm setting the multi parameter with a simple query for the RANGE values. When the report is run parameters default to ALL or the user can re-run the report with their own selection in the parameter drop list. All is working well...

Is there any way to Add a "Preference Ranges" parameter to my drop list?  I would add the text "Preference Range" to my RangeDropList with a simple union to the existing query.

The problem I'm having is setting the parameter to a handful of RANGE values when the user selects the "Preference Ranges" from the parameter drop list.  I'm not sure if an expression could be used to solve my issue.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Default path for saving reports on file system

Hello,

during period of troubles connecting to Local Servers and Sites location i.e., to http://localhostname/ReportServer, the place where all Reports are saved by default, I have continued to work on some Reports that have been saved to file system of my localhost/developing machine. But, upon recovery of http location, I can not see/open those files?

Please, how to approach those files in order to open them in Report Builder 3.0 and thus, to "save as" them to the http location? Seems that Report Builder has chosen that location, by default, somehow.....

thanks

Note: Search of type *.rdl does not provide necessary answer!

I have a custom program that calls and runs reports in SSRS 2005 I have upgraded to SSRS 2008. I changed the remote.config that that my program points to and directed to the new server. Now I can log into my new reports server and run any report do what i need but when I try to use the report server from my program  I get the following error

System.InvalidOperationException: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.

The request failed with an empty response.

   at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters)

I have Google this error and tried some different things with no luck. I am running this on MS Server 2008.

Does anyone know how to get this fixed?

Thanks!

Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

Hi,

I have just installed SQL Server 2008 Feb CTP. When I try and open the Reporting Services webpage i.e. http://Reportserver/Reports/ I get the error:

The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

In the Reporting Services config, i can't see how to turn this off, apart from removing the SSL entry (port 443 details etc), but this just creates another error.

I am more a developer, so don't really understand SSL, I am just trying to display some reports I have created in 2008.

I am running this on Windows XP.

Many thanks

Brett

Hi All,

I have a drill down report which need to be exported to excel. But, when exporting to excel it shows many unwanted blank rows for a particular record due to the drill down option. Is it possible to remove it?

I need to exclude the rows in yellow color when exporting to excel. Is it possible?

Hello,

We have a 2008 R2 SP1 server which we are developing SSRS reports for.  We also have Report Builder 3.0 in this environment.  When getting ready to promote reports from dev to test (we are trying to deploy reports with rs.exe using RSS scripts), we found that reports developed in RB give the following sort of error:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The report definition is not valid or supported by this version of Reporting Services. This could be the result of publishing a report definition of a later version of Reporting Ser
vices, or that the report definition contains XML that is not well-formed or the XML is not valid based on the Report Definition schema. Details: '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 102, position 10.

   at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005.CreateReport(String Report, String Parent, Boolean Overwrite, Byte[] Definition, Property[] Properties, Warning[]& Warnings)

Reports developed in BIDS deploy without error.  In fact, if we import an RB report into BIDS and deploy it manually, there are no issues.  Looking at the code page, there are a few differences, but the crux of it seems to be with the declaration.  If I create a report in BIDS (2008 R2 SP1), we get teh following on the code page:

<

Reportxmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2008/01/reportdefinition"xmlns:rd="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQLServer/reporting/reportdesigner">

While the code page from RB 3.0 looks like this:

<

Reportxmlns:rd="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQLServer/reporting/reportdesigner"xmlns:cl="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2010/01/componentdefinition"xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2010/01/reportdefinition">

The report definition also contains a new node <ReportSections>, so there are definite schema differences.  I tried to take a look at the web site: http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2010/01/reportdefinition  and the page is not found (the 2008 version exists.)

So what's the deal?  Why does it seem like BIDS is using an older report definition even with the latest version of BIDS?  How come RB is out of synch and how can I deploy these reports using rs.exe?  Has anyone run into this error yet?

Thanks for any thoughts on this,

Mark

Update:  I created a new report in BIDS, confirmed that it was using the 2008 schema, dragged in an indicator (new in 2008 R2) and BAM! the schema updated to 2010.  So sweet, now it seems I can't deploy anything with a new feature in it via rss scripts?

passing a parameter

Good Day To All,

I have a report that has a parameter that is an INT (ex. 201501, 201502,201503) but I want the user to be able to pick the date from a calendar and not have to know the exact date. Since the INT field is not truly a date how can I do this? I thought about putting in a drop down for the int field (Latest_period is the name of the field) but it give me to much for a drop down 12 x as many years. I hope I explained this correctly.

Report Viewer export to xlsx query

$

Hi All,

           I was wondering on a question that : exporting a report to xlsx is feature of SSRS server or of Report viewer control itself.

I have multiple report servers (eg 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014) . I am using a windows application and reportviewer version 9.0.

So when I use report server 2008 R2 its not showing the xlsx export option but working fine with other report servers.

Again I changed the control to 11.0 (also 12.0) and checked the same scenario and same results with Reporting server 2008 R2 but working fine with 2012 and 2014.

So can anyone please explain if its worth to change the Report Viewer control or just changing the server is okay to achieve the functionality of exporting to xlsx.

The following SQL Server Reporting Services Instance could not be found: MSSQLSERVER.

I am installing TFS 2013 and trying to connect to a SQL Server 2012 with SP1 instance of Reporting Services. I am getting the following error -

TF255186: the following SQL Server Reporting Services Instance could not be found: MSSQLSERVER. The server name is: xxxx

I have configured Reporting Services on the default instance with its URLs. It is also set in Native Mode. I have the SQL Client Connectivity Tools on the TFS Server. Yet when I connect, I get the error above. Firewalls are disabled at both ends. When I look at the network traffic, I see the request to connect coming from the TFS Server and then exactly 5 seconds later, it fails with the error. Has anyone run into this issue? Anyone aware of a 5 second timeout value in SQL? What else could be wrong?

Getting Total of group values in SSRS

$

Hi All,

I am trying to build a report using SSRS.
I need to retrieve a distinct value from my initial query and place this in the header or group row.
The detail lines are hidden but may be expanded(shown).
I then have another group row in which I require the sum of all distinct values from my previous group row.

To explain pictorially I have the following:

My example

Scroll right to see the pink squares.
Note that the total in the pink square is the sum of the individual var3 values distinct so 10 even when var3 =4 in euro currency.

I have tried using sum(var5) but this will give the incorrect value as it sums all detail lines not just the distinct values.

I have tried using another dataset but when referenced the grouping behaviour expected is non existent so where I expect 40 I get 80 i.e. sum disregarding values of var1 and var2 although these are the grouping variables.

I need it to be dynamic so I am unable to use IIF(...).

I do not mind if this is resolved in the SSRS rdl or sql statement that generates the data being input.

If I could get var4 or var6 to be the totals I require I could work with that.

Any help gratefully received, thanks

I have also tried the following custom code:

Dim public unitLimit as Double

Public Function Getcpvalue(ByVal limit_amount1 AS Double) AS Double

unitLimit = unitLimit+ limit_amount1

return limit_amount1

End Function

Public Function Totalunitvalue()

return unitLimit

End Function

where limit_amount1 is the reportitems! cell name that needs to be totalled.
When run an error is produced:

Getcpvalue is not declared or is not accessible due to permissions

the value of limit_amount1 is =Getcpvalue().

any help gratefully received

Last run date blank in Report Manager

$

Since migrating Reporting Services from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008, the Last Run date, visible on the Details view of reports in a folder under Report Manager, has been blank.  I would hope that this is supposed to be populated and equivalent to the "When Run" date visible in the 2005 version of Report Manager.  Does anyone know of any setting that needs to be configured in order for this to show, or if this has been reported as a bug?

Installing secondary SRS Instance issue

Hi All

Im have an existing SRS Instance (SQL 2012 version) on one of my SQL cluster nodes, but as a standalone install, and this works fine (used by SCOM 2012).  Im now trying to install a second SRS Instance on the same server node (to be used by SCSM 2012).  The install works fine, but when I go to SQL Reporting Services Configuration Manager, and go to the Database pane to create the neccessary two reporting databases.  On running through the database creation wizard it attempts to create the databases, it completes the first 4 steps but fails on the "Applying connection rights".  Checking the databases I can see that they have been created, but the process has not worked since I am not able to exit the wizard ("Finish" is greyed out).

Any thoughts very much appreciated!?
