Hi all,

We've had an unexpected outage on two of our reporting services server overnight and we're hoping someone can point us in the right direction.  We have a Windows Server 2008 machine running about 5 instances of reporting services in standalone, non-IIS mode.

Two of these instances have started hitting exceptions when rendering any reports.  I include an excerpt from the log below.

The first evidence of a problem in the log is an InternalCatalogException, of which I can find many unrelated hits when searching the forums so I don't think this is specific enough to trace.  I do note a reference to "segmentedChunkStore" in the text which seems like a better clue.

I've eliminated the idea of a machine/OS issue due to several instances not affected by this problem.  There is some possibly related info which may help:

-This machine is a HyperV VM which has been moved between hosts within the last few weeks. In the process, all Report Server databases were backed up and restored at the new site.
- It uses a Custom Authentication extension authored by us.
- Within the last few days, users of three RS instances advised that a role permission they had prior to the move (Consume Reports Task) was no longer granted.  I had to re-grant this to the role.  The two RS instances now experiencing the InternalCatalogException issue raised an error at the time about not being able to find a group when I granted the task.  I added the group, granted again, and it granted without error so I thought nothing more of it.
- These two RS instances have been working fine since the HyperV host move right up until last night.
- The machine had several Windows Updates queued up which were installed last night.  Since completion of the updates and subsequent reboot, these two Reporting Services instances now raise this InternalCatalogException error when trying to render any reports from Report Manager, Report Server, or previous from Report Viewer.

At this point, I'm suspecting some sort of data corruption has occurred in the ReportServer databases, initially causing the loss of the Consume Reports permission and, after a reboot, these exeptions. But any suggestions on how to troubleshoot further greatly appreciated. Here is the excerpt from the log.

I am exporting my RDL report to Excel.  I want the column headers to be at the top of each page and to freeze when scrolling.

I have seen a lot of post around the tablix properties and advanced mode.

I can get the column headers to behave when I am viewing the report in a VS Report Server project. When I export the report to Excel, its the page header that is frozennot the column headers. 

Is the problem my page header or is the problem the excel renderer?

If I open the excel file directly I have to do the following to set the freeze panes manually

- View: Split (to disable it)

- Set cursor in excel for freeze panes

- View: Freeze Panes: Freeze Panes

I am wondering:

- How the split gets set.

- Could it be if the split wasn't getting set that the other steps I followed would actually work.

Tablix Properties - No checks in Row Headers or Columns Headers

Row Group Static Properties = Fixed Data = True; KeepWithGroup = None; RepeatOnNewPage = True

Column Group - Static columns  = fixed Data = false;  

I have also tried setting all static columns to fixed data but it didnt work either

Hi we are experiencing a performance issue when a report is being run within the Report Viewer Control in ASP.NET. We are using the report viewer in Remote mode.

We are using SQL Server 2008 R2, Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET, .NET FrameWork v4.

We have 3 Servers: Webserver, Reporting Services Server and a Database Server. They are all virtual machines on the same virtual network.

The stored procedures execute in a very short period of time. Less than 5 seconds

When the report is executed via the Report Manager (RDP'ed onto the reporting server). It executes in 30 seconds (which is fine for this report). When the same report is Executed from within the ASP.NET page using the Report Viewer Control on the same machine, it takes around 5 minutes to run - which is not ok.

I have checked the Network/CPU/IO on the Reporting server, it appears that after a short while, the CPU is hit for a few seconds, after that there is a long period of Network Traffic from the SQL Server to the Report Server - 12-15mbps for around 5 minutes, After which the report is being rendered by Internet Explorer. This Network Traffic does not occur when the report is being executed in Report Manager, it just returns straight away. The virtual network also appears to be fine, when copying a file between the two servers the throughput is fine.

If you look at the execution log table on the ReportServer database, it claims to have finished within 15-20 seconds on both executions! 5 seconds data retrieva, 6 Seconds Processing, 6 Seconds Rendering. The question is what is different between the two executions? And what can we do about it?

The Reporting Services databases are both on the SQL server (Not local to the Reporting Services Server), however, we do have a development environment where it is on the same box as the Reporting Services Server, yet this still has the same issue.

How can Report Manager execute it perfectly and yet it takes ages using Report Viewer?

I am working with BIDS 2008 and Dynamics CRM 2011.

I just developed a FetchXML-based report (client requirement). Also, I usedexpressions as my dataset queries, such as:

The purpose is to return a dummy value (2nd query) instead of the normal values (1st query), depending on the parameter value.

Everything works fine in Visual Studio's preview mode. I can see and use values from both queries.

But for some reason, when trying to deploy this report in Dynamics, I get anMalformed FetchXML error (details below). Indeed, when I replace the expression with a normal FetchXML value, the report deploys fine. Actually, I can put any valid FetchXML, even if it makes no sense in my reporting context, it deploys! So really the problem is the expressions, that are not recognized as valid XML.

Any Idea how I could make Dynamics accept my expression-based datasets?

I have a master report with a sub report on it I put the expression (for testing purposes) into Visibility  =IIF(1+1=2,true,false)...as far as I can see this should make the sub report visible.  the report however fails to run and I get an error back saying "The Located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference"  If I remove the expression the report runs again?

Why Is this not valid?

Hi all, I am working with asp.net reporting using RDLC file. Everything was working fine but now when I add a new dataset, an error occurs.

Undocumented Error.

Could not load file or assembly 'PrecisionCareEntity, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I have no more info than this, to provide you people to diagnose the problem. Have anyone idea what would be happening?

I just want to add a new dataset.

I have a Dimension with DateTime field which shows Date and Time when browsing the dimension in Visual Studio.

But when I execute the query in Query Builder, it only shows the Date in Report Builder (2009-06-06 00:00:00:000).  I would prefer not to separate Date and Time into different fields, because I would eventually like to add Start and End Date and Time parameters (which is another thing I still need to conquer).

The source field in SQL Server is an actual DateTime field.

In SSRS, I have a report that is contained within a List Item. The report is looped for each student that is selected. The theory is for a principal to select his school and grade level, to create the report for all students within the grade. This works fine within BIDS.

The report generates fine for grade levels with lower enrollment. I have had success running this within SSRS for 10th, 11th and 12th grades (all with enrollment under 900 students for the school). When i run the report for 9th graders (967 students) or any combination of the grades that run successfully alone, the report doesn't generate.

This is not a timeout issue, since i have tried setting the timeout to 10 minutes. The "Loading" icon shows for about 1 or 2 seconds and then disappears, returning a blank screen.

Any limitations as to how many rows a list item can return? Any help would be appreciated. I can't seem to figure out why SSRS is not returning this report.

      I created two calculated members., Name 1.Reference period and  2.analysis period..,  based on measure value.,

I am getting two set of results when i run them sepearatly..,

The X-axis which is displayed is not sorted properly. 2007-2008 is a string. And when I convert Fields!CurrentMonth.value as CDATE(Fields!CurrentMonth.value ), I am getting error as cannot convert

String to date. Here it is sorting in Ascending order rather than Monthwise.

I am using Teradata as Database. I have a multivalue parameter. In my Query i have mapped this paramtere as:

K.REGION IN (@P_Region)

The issue is when i select multiple values it works fine, but i when i select single value it return error that "There is a mistmatch between the number of parameters specified and number of parameteres required".

Hi guys,

i am currently working on a solution that calls reports running in a SharePoint-Integrated SSRS from an external application
therefore i built a HTML form where users can select some parameters and then pass them to the SSRS report
to do this i am using the RSViewerPage.aspx and the relative path the the report (similar as if you would click on the report in MOSS)
http://localhost/_layouts/ReportServer/RSViewerPage.aspx?rv:RelativeReportUrl=/test.rdl

the problem is, that some of these selections may be very big and exceed Internet Explorers URL length limit of 4000 (or 2000) characters

so i switched the HTML form's method to POST instead of GET so the parameters do not get passed in the URL to avoid the url length limit

i know that, if i am using ReportViewer, i have to prefix the parameters with "rp:"
this also works fine when using GET

unfortunatelly it does not work when using POST
i also tried other or no prefix but none of them seemed to work

here is a simplified example of my HTML form:
