SharePoint Integrated Mode Licensing

$
0
0

This has been asked before, but I haven't seen a clear answer:

What are the licensing scenarios for running SSRS in integrated mode in a SharePoint farm?

For example, consider a two server farm:

SQL01
SP01

Scenario 1:

SQL01: SQL + SSRS in native (non-sharepoint) mode
SP01: sharepoint WFE

In this scenario, ssrs is installed on a licensed copy of SQL, so there are no additional fees to run SSRS. In a sharepoint site, you may add a web part that displays a report from the SQL01 using either the SSRS web part or a page viewer web part.

In this scenario, there are no additional licensing fees for running SSRS.

Scenario 2:

SQL01: SQL + SSRS in integrated mode  + "minimal install" of SharePoint WFE
SP01: sharepoint WFE

To run the above, SQL01 must have a “minimal install” of SharePoint in order to support SharePoint native mode. Which means the that sql box needs to be licensed for SharePoint. "minimal install" is a term that shows up in MS help docs, but I don't know what that actually means. Does "minimal install" have some effect on licensing, or do you have to pay for a full server license to meet this SSRS install requirement?

Scenario 3:

SQL01: SQL
SP01: sharepoint WFE + SSRS in integrated mode

To run the above, SP01 would need a valid SQL license.

Is the above correct? To run SP in SharePoint integrated mode, either the WFE needs to be licensed for SQL or the SQL box needs a SharePoint Server license?

Thanks,

I am unable to start reporting services when I change the configuration to use the services account.

I receive the following error from the configuration tool:

System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException: Time out has expired and the operation has not been completed.
   at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.WaitForStatus(ServiceControllerStatus desiredStatus, TimeSpan timeout)
   at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.ConfigurationPanelWithErrors.StartOrStopServiceTask(Boolean start, String serviceName)

I receive the following error from starting in Services directly:
Windows could not start the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The Process Terminated Unexpectedly

The error in the event log: The SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 44 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

There is nothing written to the Report Server Logs

I am able configure and start reporting services with the default account (Local System).

The same services account is working fine for the following services:  SQL Server, SQL Agent, SQL Analysis Services, SQL Integration Services.

Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

Is there a reference for the datazen simulated data?

I'm trying to understand these calculations. Is there a Datazen reference for the simulated data in the SQL Server Mobile Reporting Publisher?

RE: Datazen Enterprise Server for Real-time Dashboards

In the older version of Datazen, to enable real-time, you have to enable the Datazen Enterprise Server. How is this implemented now in SQL Server 2016?

Accessing live data requires a Datazen Enterprise Server; each live data source is configured on that Datazen Enterprise Server through its control panel by an administrator. Once a connections and data views, or queries, are configured, live data sources are proxied through the Datazen Enterprise Server and made available to Datazen clients for inclusion in dashboards.

Hi,

We are facing an issue with the performance of the SSRS report. With only few fields of data, the report is taking about half a minute to load. Can someone suggest as to how to increase the performance of the report so that it loads quickly(in a few seconds).

Thanks and Regards,

[SSRS 2016] What is in store for the .net "Local Mode"

I have a lot of projects that use the rdlc type of reports to be rendered in local mode. I've installed the new Data Tools for Visual Studio 2015 Preview but I can't get ReportViewer new version or a new rdlc template for 2016 version.

Does the 2016 version still support the local mode reports with the new layout and features ??

Thanks

SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 sharepoint integrated mode error

Hi,

I have sharepoint 2013 farm and sql server 2012 reporting services is installed, sql server reporting services is running, I can see settings in the service application, I deployed some reports and when viewing it I get this error

  • An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException: An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. ---> System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingObjectModel, Version=11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

In 2012 it is a service application.

I have found links like this

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlreportingservices/thread/db19c566-f876-4fb1-8bd2-f73449ae3531

Where it is advised to give permission on the folder, In sharepoint 2013 reporting services run as a service application under sharepoint web services IIS site, If I enable .net authentication I get access denied error and if I give permission to that directory of the service account Or all users I still see the error above.

Any ideas/help much appreciated.

SSRS 2016 FIPS Algorithm Error

$

Hi,

Relating specifically to this thread based on 2008 R2 SSRS we implemented the accepted answer in SSRS 2014 with no further issues.

We have now performed an in-place upgrade on a PoC environment and have encountered a very similar FIPS errors described in the above post (see below). With the machinekey still in place on theReportServer web.config, Im assuming the issue is caused by the fact there is no longer aReportManager web.config file (and I have not updated any substitute version of it?).

I have tried implementing the machinekey in the machine.config files in both the .NET 2.0 and 4.5 folders in windows with no positive results. Any assistance is appreciated, though I may need to take this direct to MS for direction.

library!ReportServer_0-1!5b4!07/15/2016-05:46:24:: e ERROR: Report server unique dump occured. Exception: Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException: An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ClientTelemetry' threw an exception. ---> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.

Thanks in advance, Craig

Upgrade TFS 2012 to 2015: Warehouse Db issue - None of the 2012 execution results got backed up inUpgrade TFS 2012 to 2015 Warehouse Db issue. None of the 2012 execution results got backed up in 'dbo.TestResultView' & '[dbo].[FactTestResult]'..

Hello All,

I have recently upgrade TFS version of my project from 2012 to 2015. Everything is working fine with respect to upgrade, including the reporting services (reports which are by default provided in reporting server by Microsoft). However I have few custom reports created in reporting services which are not working as per the expectations. One of the reason for it is execution results done in TFS 2012 for the test plan i.e. test cases are not updated in TFS 2015 warehouse DB. If I check 2012 warehouse DB it has all the results for execution still not in tfs 2015. Table and view which I checked for it is -

Upgrade TFS 2012 to 2015 Warehouse Db issue. None of the 2012 execution results got backed up in 'dbo.TestResultView' & '[dbo].[FactTestResult]'. Interestingly other tables in warehouse DB - tfs 2015 has data as per the expectation. I am not sure why the results table and views are not updated.

To get this data update, I have tried to re-createwarehouse database and the analysis service database. However it seems to have the same data as earlier and nothing for results table and view.

Any suggestion / Solution to solve this problem.

Thanks,

Ahetejazahmad Khan.

Can I write excel formulas in a report which will work when exported to Excel?

$

We have a report which when exported to excel by our system users has other information added to it - information which can't be created programatically. This data is then summarised and averaged in Excel and rather than have my users creating these formulas each time, i'd like to be able to write the formulas into the report and then when its exported to Excel, they are already in place and ready to use.

I can't begin a text box with = though, because Visual Studio will think its trying to calculate something. So how do I do this?

I am developing a report in rdlc. I have got a condition to hide a column that is at the center of the Matrix report. I am using a condition to hide that particular column. I have been successful in that. The issue is i get white spaces between the columns. Is it possible to remove the white spaces? If so how that can be done?

I have bolded the fields, filter expressions and parameters that I believe are part of the issue.

Hi All, I have created a simple table in SSRS. I want to set the background color (gradient) of a column based on the another column's value from largest value to smallest.

Refer the following table -

As shown in above table (Prepared in excel), The background color of SysName column (instead of Hours column) should be set starting with darker Green to light Green depending on the value of Hours column.

How to achieve this in SSRS?
