Reporting Services - Export to Excel

$

Thanks in advance for any help.  I have developed a report that has about 100 columns and 16K records.  My problem is when I try to export the report to Excel it takes too long.  Couple minutes or more.  There is a great deal of formatting and conditional formatting expressions in the rdl.  I have tried a version without any formatting and it still runs long when trying to export.

This is a report that I'm recreating so I don't have a lot of flexibility on the design.  Also using a subscription is not an option.

I'm wondering if there are settings I can try.  Open to options.

I have also noticed it will export to Excel much quicker in BIDS than when it's been deployed to the SSRS server.

Thanks,

Terry

SQL 2016 Designer breaks previously working reports - One or more parameters were not specified for the subreport

I've got a project with over 100 reports in it.  Some of these reports date clear back to SQL 2005 while others are as new as last month.

Within this project, I've got one report which has 8 sub-reports (the sub-reports make up substantially all of the content, other than page header/footer).

Simply opening the report with the SQL 2016 report designer in VS 2015 and then deploying it to SSRS results in a report where 3 of the 8 sub-reports no longer function, each providing the very useful message:

One or more parameters were not specified for the subreport, 'subreportName', located at: /Path

Of course, nowhere in that message does it say which parameters, nor is anything recorded on the server identifying the parameters, nor are there in fact any parameters that are missing or invalid.

I've tried innumerable combinations ranging from deleting the subreport entirely and re-creating it, supplying only the parameters that don't have defaults on one extreme, to passing values to all 15 report parameters, including hidden ones, including parameters that have defaults.  All of the values being passed are valid (far as I can tell) and yet this error insists on appearing.

Again, these reports worked before the SQL 2016 designer touched them.

Any ideas?  I've already wasted days trying to make this latest version of the report designer behave.

Using Report Builder 1.0 / 3.0 in SQL Server 2014

Hello

We have been using Report Builder 1.0 & 3.0 since SQL Server 2008 R2 and recently during internal testing on SQL Server 2014, we find that the report builder 1.0 is not available in the SSRS or unable to launch the exe (Click Once & Install methodology)  and we understand from Microsoft that they are moving away from Report Builder 1.0 and this exe is no longer part of SQL Server 2014.

Question

1. Are we okay to save the exe from SQL Server 2008 R2 box and still use that on SQL Server 2014 servers at Customer Servers? Just wondering if this would be valid to do so or does it interfere with Microsoft's licensing contracts.

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks!

KPIs Security Not Working?

Users are able to manage/configure KPIs with "browser" security role, when they should only have view permissions.

Even creating a custom role with task "View resources in the folder hierarchy; and view resource properties.", still users are able to change the KPI properties.

Am I missing something?

Report Builder & Mobile Reports Publisher Bugs

I hope someone is able to assist with this.  We are actively attempting to use SSRS 2016 with Report Builder 2016 & Mobile Report Publisher 2016 to spearhead a new customer portal for our business. Unfortunately, there is a nasty list of BUGS and workarounds building up for core functionality of the product.  Without fixes in place, it makes the product in a business environment almost infeasible.

Some of the bugs/workarounds we have encountered include:

dataset parameters in Mobile Reports do not work without manually editing the mobile report file.

datasets can't be re-edited in the query designer without manually editing the report file.

Cannot use date filter/picker in mobile reports when connected to SSAS Tabular model without creating a custom date measure which then causes incorrect results in report.

Unable to pass a dynamic parameter into a report before rendering it.  The parameter must be pre-determined and stored within the report.  This one really get's me, I mean, seriously??? Anyone who has worked with reports KNOWS you MUST be able to dynamically pass parameters into a report before you render it.  How this was missed is beyond me??  In the programming world, this would be like writing a function where the parameters have to be pre-determined.  You just wouldn't do that because it makes the parameters pointless.

Mobile Reports do not retain the color scheme when re-opened in the designer, sounds like a small issue but has resulted in reports with different color schemes.

SQL server 2016 mobile reports - personalise user querys

Hello, we have embedded the mobile dashboards into our existing asp.net app with an iframe and it works well but we are unable to pass the username from the url (&UserId)  into the dashboard dataset to retrieve only their data. In ssrs you could use the logged in username in the dataset.

Here is a similar post on this issue

If anyone knows if this functionality will be available in the future that would be great

Thanks

SSRS 2016 Mobile Reports / SSAS 2016 Tabular Model Calculated Measures do not Show Correct Value on a Guage

$

We created a tabular model on SSAS 2016 that includes a calculated ratio measure: SUM(X)/SUM(Y). We tested the model by connecting it from Excel PivotTable, PowerView, PowerPIVOT and SSRS Paginated report. In all these tools we were able to get the correct value calculated for this measure on all grouping levels.

Now we created a dataset that includes this calculated measure with other dimensions and measures. We created an SSRS 2016 mobile report and we connected the report to this dataset.

We added a Guage to the report layout, and we associated the Guage with this ratio (calculated measure). Unfortunately, this yields always incorrect results. After few investigations, we found that the problem is that mobile reports gauges force you to choose an aggregate function for the measure: SUM, AVG, LAST... etc and there is no NONE option available as in other BI tools to handle calculated measures!!!

This means that we will never be able to display this calculated measure value correctly on Mobile reports!!!

A KPI will not solve the issue either.

For us this is a real problem as we have so many of those calculated measures in our model.

Guys, is there a problem in this area??!!

What is the solution??

SSRS 2016 logging same message 250+ times per second

$

Greetings, this is my first time posting so I apologize in advance.

I have an SSRS instance that works fine from a user's perspective.  On the server, however, I have to delete logs every day or my drive fills up.  I am getting 33MB of the same line repeated 250+ times per second:

library!WindowsService_0!2634!06/06/2016-18:07:48:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerStorageException: , An error occurred within the report server database.  This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database.;

I copied all of my reports and datasets from a test server onto a production server (brand new VM spun up with only this installed) and made sure to follow the migration instructions provided.  Upon doing so, my new server gives that error a crazy number of times.  I've scoured the database and Reporting Services Configuration Manager for any references to the previous server.  Found a few, but have corrected them all and this issue persists.

What other information can I provide to assist in resolving this?

SSRS Matrix - Sorting

Hello,

can somebody explain me how to properly sort "[Arrivals] group" by Count(SearchDate)] for particular "Departure" in this Matrix?

I tried this fx in Row Group Sorting Properities, but it didn't work.

[Count(SearchDate)]

Then I tried specify which column I would like to sort, but same problem.

=Count(IIF(Fields!Departures.Value = "PRG", 1, 0))

After deeper inspection I found that I am able to sort "[Arrivals] group" only by [Count(SearchDate)] but not grouped for particular "Departure".

Thank you very much for your help, Petr.

SSRS text box after word export changes font to Times New roman even though we had applied Arial 10 font | ssrs 2008 and ssrs 2014 word export

SSRS text box after word export changes font to Times New roman even though we had applied Arial 10 font .

This text box is given so that user can enter text in Arial 10 but word is forcing it to use Timenew Roman.

Note: This field has no dataset mapping and its just a plain text field box.

So ideally there is no value when we export and we let user to enter values after export

How to update all reports without recreating them?

$

Hi, People,

I have an exam soon and I'm not sure about SSRS templates.  If I create numerous reports that use the same corporate branding, what would be the simplest way to update them all without recreating them all?  For example, how would I increase the image size of the logo in the left corner of every report without actually opening and modifying (and then having to re-deploy) every corporate report?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a report template is going to work.  My understanding is a report template is basically another report, and once a new report is created from that template, any connection is broken.  I'm not a .NET developer, but it seems like some sort of custom assembly would be the way to go, though I can't confirm this with any amount of searching I've done.  How would I create these reports to enable the most efficient corporate branding updates?

Thanks,
Eric B.

Render a report with Avaialbe Values and multiple parameters

$

I'm trying to create a report that has a parameter by [Title] that displays their position type and then a field that is in the same table that has their standard pay rate.  From there I wanted to create a parameter that has hours they have worked, eg, 1,2,3, etc.  I'm trying to display their name and pay and with the second parameter choose how many hours they have worked.

I did this for one set of values but I want it for multiple values.

If I have multiple values chosen for the Title - how can I choose multiple values for Hours worked?

ReportServer.ExecutionLog.ReportID

$

I'm trying to query the refresh date and time of KPIs from ExecutionLog table.

For some reason, I'm not able to link the ExecutionLog.ReportID with Catalog.ItemID to get the basic info (name, path, etc.) for KPIs or Mobile Reports, using the following simple query.

SELECT C.PATH,C.NAME,E.*
FROM ExecutionLog E
INNER JOIN CATALOG C
ON E.ReportID = C.ITEMID

I can see the RDL names, but not the names of KPIs and Mobile Reports. It looks like the ReportID in the ExecutionLog is referring to another field based on the content type.

Can someone please help me?
