Tablix headers not repeating in SSRS 2008

I have created a new report & add a table to it. When I select "Tablix Properties" and check on Columns Headers -> "Repeat Cheader columns on each page" the header columns do not repeat on each page. I also tried "Repeat header rows on each page". "Add page break before" seems to work ok. I am using VS 2008 9.0.30729.1 SP

I also tried deploying but it still does not work on the deployed version.

Interestingly, reports migrated from 2005 & unchanged seem to be ok.

Any ideas? Am I not setting soemthign up properly?

Prevent word break on plus and minus signs

Hello, I've got text box in SSRS report with 2 placeholders.

Second one is long and is wrapped several times. I want text to be wrapped on spaces, but it's wrapped on plus and minus signs instead. I need "a-b+" and "Ss-+" to be kept together.

Text is fetched from dataset, and can be short or long - I can't predict length or order.

Is it possible to control word wrapping here?

SSRS 2016 - Can I control access of specific reports by LocationID from different locations accross the US

Can SSRS 2016 be configured to the following:

We have several locations accross the USA, each of which need to be able to run a set of reports in SSRS.

Can security access be given to view ONLY specific reports per location?  If so, how would you accomplish that?

So far all I am seeing is Roles based security access.

Thanks

Opening rdl file on server and notepad launches

Hi,

I have a client that is attempting to open an rdl file with report builder.  The file is on the companies SharePoint site and when she selects open in report builder it opens notepad with info like its doing a data dump - see below.  I removed all the http references so I could post it here...  I've checked her file associations and rdl's are associated with report builder, other folks in her group are not having the same issue so I'm thinking its something corrupt in her registry settings.  Her registry is locked down.

Has anyone ever seen this before?  Any thoughts on how to resolve?

Thanks for your help.

Don

VS 2015 SSRS Error: there are multiple root elements

$

I was trying to add a column to an existing report. I have just upgraded from VS 2013 to 2015 and it was the first task like that.

When I changed the report and tried to deployed it ewer version wasn't able to be deployed to an older SSRS version.

When I tried to preview I got below error and warnings:

  • Custom parameter layout was removed from the report. SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services and earlier do not support custom parameter layout.
  • [rsInvalidReportDefinition] The definition of this report is not valid or supported by this version of Reporting Services. The report definition may have been created with a later version of Reporting Services, or contain content that is not well-formed or not valid based on Reporting Services schemas. Details: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 113933.
    Failed to build item

Step-by-step guide

I checked the SSRS version on all environments and it was the same.

Finally the issue resolved by following below steps:

1- Right click on the report in Solution Explorer and choose "View Code"

2- The first two lines of code looked like this:

(sorry I could't put the xml code because my account is not verified)

The only thing which I changed was the 2010 to 2016 in the first line of code (right clicked on the report and 'view code') and then the file was saved and deployed successfully.

SQL server connection Error in SQL 2008 - "Cannot connect to PC."

Hi,

I tried everything while installing sql server 2008 express in my Windows 7PC but i am still not able to connect to server.I always get this error when i try to connect to sql server through management studio -"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)(Microsoft SQL Server Error:2)"

Steps taken to resolve issue but still unresolved :

1.Upgraded my Visual studio 2008 to SP1.

2.upgraded framework to 4.5

3.Made TCP port 1433.

4.All instances were made Enabled in configuration Manager

5.Made firewall exception for sqlserver file.

All the above didn't help me to connect to SQL server 2008.Every time i am getting the same error.

Note : While installing SQL Server 2008 i do not get any error.

Please guide what i am doing wrong & what should be done to make it work !!!!!!?

SSRS 2008 comparison in performance in different parameters

Hi everyone,

Recently I experienced a situation with my report which has 2 report parameters mapped to 2 query parameters. My DataSet is populated by a query which performs select statement with 3 union operators

select...

union

select

union

...

In the dataset query I reference the query parameters multiple times and eventually the performance degraded. Then I declared two variables in my dataset query and refenced the sql variables in my script instead of the query parameters and it worked several times faster:

DECLARE @var1

set @var1= @queryparam1

DECLARE @var2

set @var2= @queryparam2

Can someone please explain this behavior of the parameter values? Why a variable declared in my sql appears to work much faster then referencing a query parameter? Does this mean that my query is making multiple roundtrips when the query parameter is referenced multiple time?

Thanks in adavance,

Subreports not showing !!

Hello,

I have been hitting my head over the table for several hours on this problem ...

I have a master report called Report A. Report A has 8 subreports and several buttons, which are controlled by 3 parameters (drop downlist) from the user. Parameter 1 filters parameter 2, these parameters (1 and 2) are independent of parameter 3. If the user selects one option from the drop-down of parameter 3, then the report should render one of the eight subreports, passing parameters 1 and 2 into the activated subreport to generate graphs. For some options in parameter 3, i can easily render the subreport, but for other subreports, i can not! The odd thing about my issue is that I do not see these problems when I open an individual subreport and manually select parameters 1 and 2 from its drop-down menu; the report (subreports) by themselves seem to work perfectly, accessing them from Report A is the problem. Please, anyone, give me your suggestions. If you are confused, let me know so that I can explain more clearly.

Thanks,

Hello All,

I have a NPV report where user need to input the discount rates to calculate NPV values.

They only want the value to accept till 4 decimal points..I have kept it as float ..but it always rounds to 2 decimal places...

when we place the rdl in our application it doesn't round the values but it did accept more than 4 DP ..is there a way to limit it?

Default parameter to current year in SSRS Report

$

Similar questions have been asked but none have helped me to do what I need done.

I have a report parameter that selects a year. This list is populated through a dataset which is from a SSAS data source. I have one for Year and one for Calendar month and they are both dimensions of [Allegation Closed Date].

Right now it is set so that the default parameter value has to be changed manually but I want to always make it the current year so I dont have to do this every single year. The default values are set as "specify values" with a value of:

[Allegation Closed Date].[Year].&[2013]

[Allegation Closed Date].[Calendar Month].&[2013-01]

In the brackets where it says 2013 I have tried all the different expression strings I can think of to get the current year but none have worked. I also tried creating a new dataset field named CurrentYear and then using those same functions in the field source so I could just add [CurrentYear] instead of [2013], but this also did not work.

Could someone please explain to me what I am doing wrong here and why this is not working as it should?

Hi All,

I would like to install 'SQL 2016 Express with Advanced Service' to use SSRS however I cannot find it online, only SQL 2016 Express is available. I am wondering whether Microsoft released SQL 2016 Express with Advanced Service?  Beside of that can I use SSRS Web Portal with 'SQL 2016 Express with Advanced Service' version?

Thanks,

SSRS prompting for username/password when trying to access the report installed on a server from another machine on the network.

Hi,

I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 on my server. I have installed the Reporting Server and configured the same. I have developed a report using SSRS and installed the report on my server and added myself with all the roles in SSRS. When I browed/access the report through IE in the same server, I am able to view the report successfully.

But here the problem is, when I was trying to access the same report from my local machine usinghttp://<<servername>>/reports it is asking for the credentials. If I would give the credentials also, it is keep on asking the credentials and displaying nothing on IE.

Can any one help me in resolving the issue ?

Appreciate your help !!

Thanks in advance,

Cannot Save SSRS Reports using Report Builder with Form Authentication

$

I have configured SSRS to use form authentication using a custom security extension which i have implemented by following SSRS documentation. Both Report Server and Report Manager works fine with the new security extension.

However when I try to save newly created report using report builder to the report server, it gives me the following error,

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: An error occurred within the report server database.

This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. --->

Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerStorageException: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. --->

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Procedure or function 'CreateObject' expects parameter '@CreatedByName', which was not supplied.
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportingService2010Impl.CreateReport(String Report, String Parent, Boolean Overwrite, Byte[] Definition, Property[] Properties, ItemType ItemType, CatalogItem& ItemInfo, Warning[]& Warnings)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportingService2010Impl.CreateCatalogItem(String ItemType, String Name, String Parent, Boolean Overwrite, Byte[] Definition, Property[] Properties, CatalogItem& ItemInfo, Warning[]& Warnings)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2010.CreateCatalogItem(String ItemType, String Name, String Parent, Boolean Overwrite, Byte[] Definition, Property[] Properties, CatalogItem& ItemInfo, Warning[]& Warnings)

I cannot use report builder directly with new security extension to create or edit reports in the report server. It seems report builder fails to authenticate the user properly which results in missing `@CreatedByName` parameter while calling some stored procedure to create the report.

I do not even know how report builder authenticate itself when connecting the report server because it does not ask for username or password.

Could anyone give me an explanation or workaround for this issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

SSRS 2016 - Mobile Reports - Shared Datasets Security

Users are not able to view the "mobile reports" on SSRS 2016 report manager, if they don't have permissions to underlying shared datasets.

Is this by intention or a bug?

I have some datazen dashboard files that I'm need to convert into SSRS mobile dashboards.

I have installed SQL Server Migration Assistant for Datazen. But only to find out that it requires connectivity to datazen server. I don't have the server installed anymore. How can I do that?
